The First Webinar on Citizen Participation in Oversight ACIJ – CTPC OLACEFS, held on Thursday December 1, 2016 concluded successfully.
The webinar centered on Opportunities for citizen participation – an approach to development at international and regional levels.
It was moderated by Carolina Cornejo of ACIJ. The speakers were Marcos Mendiburu, expert consultant on transparency and accountability, and Aranzazu Guillán Montero, Inter-Regional Advisor on Public Accountability from the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations.
The webinar explored the progress of discussions in international forums on citizen participation in oversight. Issues relating to the development of OLACEFS and INTOSAI were presented in the context of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the Alliance for Open Government , areas that offer concrete opportunities for SAIs to strengthen their participation policies.
Marcos Mendiburu spoke on the concept of open government in Latin America and the broader concept of open state. He also spoke about how audits can promote transparency and how open data from audits can be re-used.
Meanwhile Montero Guillán Aranzazu talked about the opportunities for SAIs cooperating with other actors in the framework of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development , and about progress, norms and standards.
He also talked about the principles and characteristics of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals , and finally about SAIs and the 2030 Agenda in relation to contributions from SAIs, opportunities for strengthening collaboration with other actors and challenges.
