From September 9 to 11, the IX EUROSAI-OLACEFS Joint Conference will be held, which this year will take place entirely virtually, under the topic “The Covid19 pandemic: a unique opportunity for Supreme Audit Institutions to highlight the impact of their work.” In this way, the event invites debate and shared knowledge regarding the current situation of SAIs and their audit work regarding the pandemic.
On September 9, the event will begin with the opening ceremony, and have the participation of the President of EUROSAI and Head of the SAI of Turkey, Seyit Ahmet Baş; the president of OLACEFS and head of the SAI of Peru, Nelson Eduardo Shack Yalta; and the president of the Hungarian National Audit Office, SAI host of the event, László Domokos, who will welcome the participants from both regional organizations. The plenary session will then begin.
The opening plenary session will be attended by the Executive Secretary of OLACEFS and head of the SAI of Chile, Jorge Bermúdez, who will give a presentation on the changes and challenges that the OLACEFS region has faced on the occasion of the Covid19 pandemic and how regional methods of working have had to adapt to the new reality. Next to participate will be Kevin Summersgill, the Chairman of the EUROSAI Project Group on Auditing the Covid19 Global Pandemic and head of international relations of the SAI of the United Kingdom, who will present the main activities of this working group. Next to speak will be the dean and professor of the University of Miskolc, Mariann Veresné Somosi, who will give a chat on how to increase the efficiency and impact of the public sector. Finally, the clinical psychologist, Emőke Tapolyai, will speak about the management of change in the time of Covid19.
Thursday the 10th will begin with discussion panels on various topics such as strengthening methodologies for evaluation, the role of SAIs in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a preventive approach to corruption, and the digitization of SAIs to facilitate stakeholder participation. After a break, 8 workshops will begin with the participation of the SAIs of Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Republic Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. These workshops will be doubled on September 11, in order to give greater opportunities for interaction and exchange between participants and attendees.
On the last day of the event, a plenary session will be held in which the conclusions of the panels and workshops will be presented, which will include the participation of the EUROSAI Secretary General and head of the SAI of Spain, María José de la Fuente y de la Calle; the Executive Secretary of OLACEFS and head of the SAI of Chile, Jorge Bermúdez; the Vice President of the Hungarian National Audit Office, Magdolna Holman, as well as President László Domokos.
The IX EUROSAI-OLACEFS Joint Conference constitutes a space for exchange and cooperation between the regional groups of Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe in order to continue strengthening ties and exchanging experiences. It is important to highlight the role of technologies, which allow us to remain connected even in times of pandemic, which require rapid responses and capacity for resilience in Supreme Audit Institutions.
