The Office of the Comptroller General of Venezuela, in its capacity as pro tempore chair, will be hosting the meetings of the Coordination Group and the Joint Commission of the Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions of Mercosur and Associate Countries(EFSUR), from October 27 – 29, 2015. A central issue in these meetings will be the legal organisational strengthening necessary to turn EFSUR into the supreme control body of MERCOSUR.
EFSUR is an autonomous body, both independent and technical, created to foster the development and improvement of its members through the promotion of technical, scientific and cultural cooperation in the field of control and oversight of the use of public resources in the region. Its main objective is to support the strengthening of members and contribute to the effective management of MERCOSUR. resources. In order to do this it follows six core principles: legal equality of the member Supreme Audit Institutions; respect for national legal provisions and the tenets of international law; free entry and departure of members; close and permanent collaboration of the organisation; spirit of public service and the rejection of political interference, and the fostering of mutual benefit.
