On January 23 the act of transferring the OLACEFS Presidency (Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions) to the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic of Peru, was carried out by the Superior Audit Office of the Federation of Mexico, for the period 2019-2021, in Mexico City, Mexico. Attendees at the act of transfer – in addition to Comptroller General of the Republic of Peru Nelson Eduardo Shack Yalta and Auditor General of the Federation of Mexico David Rogelio Colmenares Páramo – included: Comptroller General of the Republic of Chile Jorge Bermúdez Soto, as Executive Secretary of the Regional Organization; President of the Court of Audit of the Republic of El Salvador Carmen Elena Rivas Landaverde, and President of the Chamber of Audit of the Dominican Republic Hugo Francisco Álvarez Pérez. The officials were accompanied by their respective technical teams.
In the swearing in of the incoming presidency, Comptroller Nelson Shack undertook to carry out 23 activities in total, through 11 projects in 2019, for the benefit of OLACEFS. He also expressed his openness to developing other initiatives that might arise or that may be raised by the OLACEFS member SAIs (Supreme Audit Institutions). In addition, he proposed creating Working Groups related to Natural Disasters and Cases of Transnational Corruption.
It is worth mentioning that OLACEFS is an autonomous, independent and non-political international organization, charge with carrying out research and specialized studies, training, technical assistance and advisory services in matters of oversight, in order to spread good practices amongst SAIs from the region, fostering their development and improvement in matters of governmental control.
