The Training and Planning Workshop for Coordinated Audits on Housing Projects was held from June 29 to July 2 of the current year in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Participants of the event included representatives from the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic. The joint activity was undertaken in the context of the Work Plan 2015 of the OLACEFS Working Group for Public Works (GTOP), in accordance with the learning for impact activities developed in the ambit of the CCC.

The host SAI was represented by Dr. Licelott Marte de Barrios and Pablo del Rosario, president and vice-president respectively of the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic, as well as Juan José Heredia and Alfredo Cruz Polanco, members of the plenary of the Chamber. Participants of the workshop included Lorenzo Jiménez de Luis, United Nations Resident System Coordinator and UNDP Representative to the Dominican Republic, and Josué Gastelbondo Amaya, Regional Specialist in Habitat and Development of the United Nations Programme for Human Settlements (UNHabitat). José Roberto Valentín represented Brazil’s Court of Accounts.

Along with contributions from the auditors of the aforementioned SAIs, speaker Josué Gastelbondo Amaya presented an overview of public policies in Latin America relating in particular to the housing shortage, sustainable development, adequate housing and improvements in quality of life. Also, a debate was held on public policies concerning social housing.

At the end of the four days of work, the planning matrix of the coordinated audit was validated by participants of the workshop and a timetable was established for the upcoming events of the second six months of 2015.
