The International Seminar on “Sustainable Development Goals and Oversight” held in Santiago, Chile, on December 14, 15 and 16, came to a successful conclusion. Its aim was twofold – to serve as a platform to disseminate the UN´s 2030 Agenda and to encourage discussion on the role external control should play in implementing the goals. In addition the seminar provided an opportunity to launch the OLACEFS Coordinated Audit on preparing governments for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in Latin America.

The event was organized jointly by COMTEMA and by the SAI of Chile and was supported by GIZ, IDB, UNDP and the World Bank, along with technicians from the SAIs of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela, who will participate in the coordinated audit.

Participating experts included Vilma Castillo, Auditor General of Argentina; Diana Marcos, Minister of the Court of Accounts of Uruguay; Anga Timilsina, Coordinator of the UNDP’s Global Anti-Corruption Initiative (GAIN); Chris Mihm, Director of Strategic Issues at the US Government Accountability Office (GAO); Svetlana Klimenko, Senior Financial Management Specialist for the World Bank (WB); Silvia Rucks, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System and Representative of United Nations Development Program in Chile; Blucer Welington Rajagukguk, Comptroller General of Indonesia, Senior Advisor on Environmental Auditing and Sustainable Development and member of the INTOSAI Working Group on the Environment; Camilo Benitez, Comptroller General of the Republic of Paraguay and President of the OLACEFS Commission on Citizen Participation; Eve Crowley, Deputy Regional Representative of the Regional Office of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Office (FAO) for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Peter Kronstrøm, President of the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies for Latin America.
