The VIII EUROSAI-OLACEF Conference opened in San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador, with the participation of SAIs from the regional INTOSAI groups OLACEFS and EUROSAI.

The event will be held from June 24 to 26 and attended by more than 100 representatives from America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and from international organisations and cooperation agencies. The two central themes will be Coordinated Audits and the Contribution of SAIs to Good Governance, which will approached through working sessions where the different visions of participants at the event will be discussed.

Participants at the opening of the event included Minister Aroldo Cedraz de Oliveira, OLACEFS President, Arno Visser, President of EUROSAI, and event host Dr. Carlos Pólit Faggioni, Comptroller General of the Republic of Ecuador.

Before starting each day’s working sessions, a dynamic and innovative programme will include contributions from specialists in fields such as Education and e-learning (João Mattar from the Universidad Anhembi-Morumbi), Capacity Building (Einar Gorrissen, IDI), Open Government and Supervision (Ryan Androsoff, OECD), in order to better prepare participants for discussions on each topic.

Each day four working sessions will be held in parallel. The theme for the first day will be Coordinated Audits and topics related to overcoming associated obstacles, their use as a tool to monitor sustainable development goals, and institutional and professional development. Following the same discussion format, the second day will tackle Good Governance and topics related to the use of Open Data, transparency and ethics, the promotion by SAIs of best practices for Public Administration and Open Government Partnership. Each working session will last two hours and the conclusions from each session will be presented and consolidated in plenary sessions.

Following the working sessions, the INTOSAI General Secretariat will present the latest information on the activities of that organisation, and the US Government Accountability Office will talk about the INTOSAI journal that it publishes.

The closing session of the conference will be attended by the OLACEFS and EUROSAI Executive Secretariats, held by the SAIs of Chile and Spain respectively, as well as the Comptroller General of the Republic of Ecuador, Carlos Pólit Faggioni.

The conference also includes a social and cultural programme with visits to historical sites in the city of Quito and the province of Imbabura.
